Privacy Policy
What Umbra collects
Nothing is sent to a server. Umbra is a client-only app that runs entirely on your iPhone, with no backend and no user account. Every piece of data you enter or that the app generates stays on your device.
Data stored locally on your iPhone
- Observation sites you save (name, coordinates, altitude) — via the "My sites" feature
- Your custom camera settings (ISO, aperture, shutter speed, voice cues) — if you enter any
- Your camera gear name (body, lens) — if you fill it in
- Alert and display preferences
You can wipe everything by deleting the app.
System data used by Umbra
- Location — only if you enable "Use my current location". The app reads the GPS coordinate at that moment, then forgets it. Never sent anywhere.
- Notifications — scheduled locally via Apple's UNUserNotificationCenter. No push server.
- Live Activities — rendered locally via Apple's ActivityKit.
In-app purchases (IAP)
The "Full Access" purchase is handled entirely by Apple (StoreKit). Umbra never sees or stores your payment information. Apple keeps track of the purchase on your Apple ID so it can be restored on your other devices.
Analytics, tracking, advertising
None. Umbra contains no analytics SDK (no Firebase, no Mixpanel, no Facebook SDK), no trackers, no ads. No cookies. No advertising identifier is read.
Apple services used
- MapKit — to display the map (Apple may log usage per its own policy)
- CoreLocation — if you enable location
- AVSpeechSynthesizer — local speech synthesis
- ActivityKit — Live Activity / Dynamic Island
- StoreKit — in-app purchases
See Apple's privacy policy for these system services.
